Well the plumbing and electrical are nearly finished. It has taken a very long time. The plumber hurt his knee and had to have an operation – his team were a bit lost without him.
We had an interesting situation with the electrical. Apparently here it is common not to put in centre light fixtures in bedrooms but to rely on lamps. Lucky we caught that one as no central light is one of my pet hates. I just can’t stand a dark room. Our builder on the other hand, does not like direct light and prefers lamps all over a room. We also put some extra lights on the front porch as we can see ourselves sitting out there at night in the summer time, under the gorgeous maple trees.
They also put in the sewerage tank this week. It is a big concrete tank about 10″x8″ and is buried near the house. There is also going to be a septic field (where the treated water is leached into the ground) – gee I hope it works well and does not smell. We are also waiting for the well to be dug so we will have water.
Next steps are to have the council inspections done and the insulation put it (hopefully this week). So next week, the plan is for the dry-walls to be done. We are also meeting with the flooring guy to choose carpets and tiles. We have found a nice patterned carpet (Shaw – “Awestruck”) which we will have in a neutral beige colour for the upstairs. Downstairs will be hardwood floors. Well that is all for now.

Eleni had her first birthday party on Saturday 1 February. She had a number of her little friends over – The girls: Anais, Sammy, Mia, Hannah and just one boy: Jack. Her little twin boyfriends, Corbin and Hunter were sick and could not make it.
She had a cake decorated with “Wags the Dog” from the “Wiggles”. She just loves dogs and now she loves cake and ice-cream too. Most of the time the kids just ran around and played with her toys (well chewed on them too). She got some nice gifts even though we said ‘no gifts’ on the invitation. Mostly though she just had a ball with all the other kids.
It all went really well. We were worried no one could come because we had heavy snow but that was not a problem in the end. The carpet survived the cake and ice-cream and we have some great memories and of course a tonne of photos.
HAPPY BIRTHDAY ELENI

Our little baby is now one year old (those stories about how you forget the pain of childbirth are just not true, but she is worth every second of it). As a proud parent I just have to write about all she has accomplished in the last year (well just the highlights then):
- My labor started on a Thurs night with 5 min contractions. She finally arrived on Monday morning at 1:48am! (I am scheduling a C-section if there is a next time.)
- At 10 weeks she had an operation on her neck due to a swollen gland and was in hospital for a week. She recovered fine but gave Christos and me grey hairs (more, in the case of Christos).
- She learnt to roll onto her stomach but could not roll back over for what seemed to be a very long time.
- She learnt to crawl, stand-up and walk.
- She says Mum, Dad, Dog, Duck and Bath. We think we heard “bye” today as well. Most of the time she babbles non-stop so I think she will be a chatter-box.
- She waves goodbye to Daddy every morning.
- She uses baby sign to tell us she is hungry.
- She has been feeding herself since 6 months with the bottle but at 12 months still does not seem that interested in solids.
- She loves to sit on my knee after a nap and just have a cuddle.
- Her favourite animal is a dog and she goes mad when she sees one.
OK – I will stop there. All I have to add is that she is the best thing that ever happened to us and we just love her so much. Happy birthday Eleni! Love Mummy & Daddy
