London Calling
Well London was calling for us last weekend. We went down on Saturday and stayed at a great hotel just near St Paul’s Cathedral (Club Quarters St Paul’s). We visited the Tate Modern which is an easy walk across the wobbly bridge from St Paul’s and also the design museum where I lost Christos amongst the designer chairs and cars. Sunday saw us visiting the State Rooms at Buckingham Palace and also the Royal Mews (where the horses, carriages and cars are kept). Buckingham Palace is only open certain times in the summer so we booked ahead (definitely a good idea to avoid the queues). They were decorated in typical gold fancy style but were pretty impressive and they had some great artwork as well. We also did some shopping and our fair share of walking over the weekend. This weekend sees Christos with both Friday and Monday off so we hope to get some golf practice in at the driving range before we tackle a proper golf course.

Leeds Castle
Christos and I went to Leeds Castle on the weekend which is not in Leeds but in Maidstone, Kent. This is the best castle I’ve been to in the UK – it has a moat around it, impressive gardens and an aviary which features several types of Australian cockatoos as well as a couple of Toucans. It has a relatively new maze (planted in 1988) which took us a while to get to the centre – it then goes down into an underground grotto. The picture shows me standing in the Giant Rhubarb in the castle gardens.
Happy Birthday Leos – Sophia, Anne, Christos and David
Does this sound familiar?
Leos can be a mixed bag, either great company or a complete pain in the neck depending on the circumstances. If not under pressure they can be sociable and warm-hearted with a generous side, but if they feel stressed or unwell they can become moody and irritable. Leos look confident and capable on the surface, but deep down their confidence can be lacking, seeing their own efforts as being less than they would have liked. They start out with the best intentions, but this doesn’t usually last when they start to doubt themselves and their efforts. Leading to them with a feeling of wanting to just get away from it all for a while.
In general they are very proud people who don’t take criticism or ridicule very well. They have very high standards in everything that they do, sometimes being over ambitious with the reality of their own abilities and limitations. In the most part they are very honest with great integrity, but that’s not to say that there aren’t those that can’t be trusted. For some obvious statements of their success are important, with things like cars, nice clothes and homes being seen as status symbols. Leos are very loving and giving people who like to play affectionately, moving on however if boredom sets in. They like to live life to the full, making kind and charming companions.
Anne (3 August): Birthday greetings to Anne who turned 41 this year and was treated to dinner at the Hogs Breath Restaurant with hubby Mark and the kids – Mathew, Alex and Helena. They are also celebrating a new addition to the family – Buddy – a Border Collie/Lab cross.
Sophia (5 August): Christos and I both send birthday greetings to Sophia who is 32 years old today – just a spring chicken really. Sophia and I worked together for a time at GSK, and was the person who introduced Christos and I to each other – in fact nearly 2 ago at her 30th birthday party! Sophia now lives in Corfu with her Dad and we were lucky to have her as our tour guide when we visited there earlier this year.
Christos & David (6 August): Well Christos hates to admit it but he is yet another year older on 6th August – yes 41 years old. And, he will be sharing his birthday with my brother David in Queensland who will be 35 years old. We will be having a quiet celebration here with a nice relaxing dinner in town. Cambridge is sweltering at the moment – the UK is trying very hard to break the 100′F mark which it has not ever managed to do in the past. It makes a pleasant change but it is just a shame there is not a nice beach nearby – unlike where David lives which is on the doorstep of the world’s nicest beaches at the Sunshine Coast.
