San Diego
Well we are back now from our latest trip which was to San Diego. We spent the first weekend at the holiday village of La Jolla which is just north of San Diego – a very posh area that has gorgeous houses and scenery. We spent the weekend checking out the beaches, cafes and restaurants of the area. La Jolla also has a great Museum of Contemporary Art but the highlight for me was seeing the seals on the beach at La Jolla Cove.
We moved into town on the Sunday night. Our hotel room was great – we had a suite and we were just near the Gaslamp District. Mind you – we did have the disabled room with no doors and low racks, and JP got a better room than us but still, it was nice! Christos was at the conference during the day while I explored places around San Diego like Balboa Park. This is a huge park with lots of museums and also the zoo – it’s all done out in a Spanish/Mexican style with beautiful gardens that reminded me of Sydney and the north coast. By night, we tried out many restaurants with both of us getting our fill of US beef (we don’t eat the meat in the UK) and also the famous “Gear-a-delies” icecream place – Christos loves the chocolate sundaes. Coronado was pretty impressive as well – the bridge, the restaurants, the Hotel Del and Point Loma – being some of the highlights.
Our last weekend saw us hit the zoo where we saw the world famous panda bears and viewed a hippo having a swim. We also managed a trip to Mexico – Tijuana – which I have to say is not a place I would like to live. We did however find a really good, authentic bar off the tourist track (thanks JP) where we enjoyed margaritas at 2 for the price of 1. Still, even the margaritas could not convince me to live there. So now it is back to work (well for Christos at least) and job-hunting for me.
