Trip To London – Next Stop Greece
Christos and I went to London last week as he had a conference down there but we managed to have Sunday and Monday off together. We went to the Saatchi Gallery which is interesting to say the least. It has some really weird exhibits including a tiger shark in formaldehyde and the cast of a man’s head in blood – yuck! We also went to see the Titian exhibit which I have to say is more my style. Came home via a quick trip to Hogwarts via the Hogwart’s Express – just exit on platform 9 3/4 at Kings Cross.
Heading off to Greece on Thursday next week. We will be staying with Christos’ family in Athens but also planning to spend a few days on the island of Santorini and visiting our friend Sophia who lives on the island of Corfu. We are also going to go to a place where there are monasteries built on the tops of rocky outcrops – Meteora. Will be away until Tues 10th June so it will hopefully be a relaxing break with lots of sun – it has been raining here for about a week so am looking forward to being warm and eating that good Greek food with my gorgeous man.

Happy Birthday Aunty Elizabeth on 29th May
Gosh May is a popular month! Another birthday greeting – this time to my Aunty Elizabeth who will be celebrating in Sydney with my Uncle Ken and family. Here is a picture of 3 generations of Armstrongs – Claudia (the baby), Tracey and Aunty Elizabeth – which was taken earlier this year.

Birthday Greetings to Kristin on 29th May
It will be Kristin’s 41st birthday on 29 May – don’t know what she is planning but she is probably still recovering from her big one last year. Here is a photo of her in her natural element!

Happy Birthday to Tony – 29 years old on 18th May
Birthday greetings to Anthony Stephen Armstrong – ‘Tony’ – who will be 29 years old on 18th May – still a way to catch up to his big sister though! No doubt he will be celebrating in style with his girlfriend Julie over in Perth. Happy birthday!
50yrs on – Sir Edmund Hillary
I recently read more about this great man, New Zealander Sir Edmund Hillary, in the National Geographic magazine. Not only did he ‘conquer’ Everest 50 years ago, he has also raised thousands of dollars to build hospitals and schools for the local Sherpa population living in the Himalayas. His and Tenzings sons also climbed Everest last year – all 29, 035ft of it!
Castle Rising
We visited this castle today near King’s Lynn in Norfolk called interestingly, ‘Castle Rising’. It is a 12th C castle which was once home to Queen Isabella who was the mother of Edward III. Apparently she was involved in the murder of her husband, Edward II who obviously did not live up to her expectations. Whilst partly in ruins, you can still go inside where some of the rooms are preserved quite well – including the toilets which used to empty onto the side of the castle wall.
We were actually going to the Norfolk Lavender farms but when we got there found out that the best time for viewing the lavender is late June – early July. So it looks like we might have to wander up that way again. I must also tell you about the seaside town of Hunstanton – which is on part of the coast called ‘The Wash’. My advice to anyone wanting to go there – you will like it if you like tacky 50′s style seaside towns – it was really pretty tragic – as was the weather. But, at least the company was excellent!
