Some origin of names trivia: I just found this out from my beautiful friend Sophia….the name Istanbul is of Greek origin. It’s a corruption of the Greek phrase i stin poli, which means ‘to the city’ or ‘at the city’. I knew the historical name of the capital is Contantinopoli or Constantinople(meaning ‘city of Constantine’), but I thought the Turks changed the name to Istanbul to take ownership and make Turkish. It turns out that both are actually Greek. Maybe the father from ‘My Big, Fat, Greek Wedding’ had something there when he said that all words are Greek 😉
